Microsoft has made good on its promise to roll out full iPadOS trackpad support to its Office apps for iPad. Microsoft said support for iPadOS trackpad features would arrive this fall, and it announced today that the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps for iPad are now being updated to fulfill that promise. With full support for the iPadOS cursor, Microsoft says Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are all now ready for Apple’s Magic Keyboard accessory, as well as any other trackpad you connect to your iPad....

Microsoft announced on its Office Web Apps blog this afternoon that its preview platform gained touch-enabled support on Safari for iOS to make it easier to navigate while on the go. Microsoft said OWA is sporting the same new interface that was introduced a week ago—except its been updated with a “focus on scenarios and experiences on a touch device.” Scenarios include zooming in and out of documents with two fingers, easily tapping to place an insertion point between words to begin typing, and selecting multiple words to easily edit....

Microsoft today officially launched the new Autofill solution, which lets users easily store and manage their website passwords across different devices — including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PCs, and Android phones. Autofill was already available as part of a beta program, but now Microsoft is making the tool available to all users through the Microsoft Authenticator app, a Google Chrome extension, and also Microsoft Edge. Just like iCloud Keychain, Microsoft Autofill stores your passwords and makes it easy to enter them on websites....

The clarification was posted after the company’s comments made headlines across some media outlets, with German Economy Minister Robert Habeck and French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire reportedly clapping back at Meta’s “threat” by saying they would be okay with Facebook not having a presence in Europe. Proof positive of the new fear in at Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s HQ is contained within the company’s recently-filed Form 10-K. This time around, Microsoft has introduced a new risk factor that has never been there before – and while the company fails to name the company that threatens it, you can draw your own conclusions. “A competing vertically-integrated model, in which a single firm controls both the software and hardware elements of a product, has been successful with certain consumer products such as personal computers, mobile phones and digital music players," Microsoft’s threat assessment states, adding, “We also offer vertically-integrated hardware and software products; however, efforts to compete with the vertically integrated model may increase our cost of sales and reduce operating margins....

The company is not ending the development of perpetual versions of the suite, but users will need to move to the latest versions in order to access all of Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud services. For example, Office 2016 which was launched in September 2015 will have its mainstream support end in 2020. So, if you don’t cut over to a Microsoft Office subscription by then, it will no longer be supported to connect to Microsoft’s cloud services....

Today Microsoft is launching a new app called ‘Invite’ that makes scheduling meetings with others easier. The app is arriving first for iPhone and iPad users in the US and Canada with more platforms and locations to follow. Microsoft made a point of noting that the app “works best for people with Office 365 business and school subscriptions,” but it also supports other client apps including outlook.com, Yahoo Mail, and Gmail....
