Microsoft announced that it would be killing its Groove Music streaming service last year, but promised it would continue investing in its Windows 10 application. However, that didn’t extend for iOS and Android. The company told The Verge, “Tomorrow we’re notifying customers that on December 1, 2018, the Groove Music iOS and Android apps will also be retired and, effective June 1, are no longer available for download.” Starting on June 1, users will no longer be able to access MP3 or audio files stored on Microsoft’s One Drive via the Groove Music app....

Microsoft today is rounding out its portfolio of apps for iOS with a new program called Snipp3t. The awkwardly named free app is essentially Microsoft’s solution for stalking celebrities like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus. According to Bloomberg, Mike Filippo will work within Microsoft’s cloud computing service, Azure, to produce custom processors. Filippo will bring plenty of chip design experience to this new role since he previously worked at Apple, Intel Corp, and Arm Ltd. Over the past decade, Filippo has led the development of various Arm chips and was initially brought onto Apple’s team to work on its M1 chip in 2020. The new hire suggests that Microsoft is prioritizing its plans to make its own chips to power Azure, which was initially announced two years ago....

Microsoft Pulls Windows 10 1809 Update On its support site, Microsoft notes the following: “We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.” If you have experienced issues and got the update via Windows Update, Microsoft wants you to contact the company directly by phone or its support website. If you manually downloaded the update but haven’t installed it yet, Microsoft says don’t install it and wait until new media is available....

Following the launch of Microsoft’s SkyDrive iPhone app, the company gave a preview of its refreshed SkyDrive service for Windows 8 and OS X. Today Microsoft has launched a new app for both Windows and Mac that brings Dropbox-like file management to the service. Of course SkyDrive is seen by many as a direct competitor to iCloud and other alternative cloud services. The tool essentially allows you to manage content stored in your SkyDrive by accessing files from your desktop, dragging and dropping them to the cloud, and organizing files in familiar folders....
