Understanding cryptography means understanding key terms, like algorithms, cipher text, or plain text. Plain text is just that, plain. It’s the message in regular language that needs encryption. Cipher text is the seemingly random mix of text that is unreadable. Specific algorithms are used to convert plain text to cipher text. The conversion process of moving from plain text to cipher text is, of course, call encryption. And moving from cipher text to plain text is called decryption....

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen passed away today at the age of 65 after revealing earlier this month that he was being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The tech pioneer and incredible investor and philanthropist is being remembered across the world this evening. The announcement was made by Allen’s company Vulcan Inc. Allen cofounded Microsoft in 1975 with Bill Gates. Allen left the company just 8 years later while being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, though he remained a board member through 2000....

Update: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook are now live on the Mac App Store. Microsoft Office appears to finally be headed for the Mac App Store as soon as this week, based on a couple of clues. Apple first announced that Microsoft would bring Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to the Mac App Store back in June 2018 as part of its Worldwide Developer Conference. Microsoft has updated its cloud-based file and photo storage OneDrive iOS app to offer full support for the iPhone XS Max and XR. Spotted by AllThings.How, Microsoft updated OneDrive for iOS last night with the sole change of offering full support for the new 6.5-inch XS Max display. Although not mentioned, this also brings full support to the XR with the same resolution, but smaller 6.1-inch display. This update comes after Microsoft made the same upgrade to Outlook for iOS earlier this week....

Earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled the entirely redesigned Office for Mac 2016 preview and introduced a variety of new features to go along with the fresh appearance. Today, Microsoft has released the official public build of Office for Mac 2016. In order to use the software, you must have an Office 365 subscription, which runs $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month. Microsoft is considering taking Xbox Live cross-platform and allowing developers to integrate the service in iOS and Android games, according to a report from The Verge. The report cites a job listing from the company’s website seeking an engineer to work on “a modern framework that is open-source, lightweight, extensible and scalable across various platforms,” including iOS and Android. The report also cites its own sources reportedly familiar Microsoft’s plans to take Xbox Live cross-platform....

Fortunately, the majority of the 36 updates released yesterday focus on stability fixes and hotfixes for Windows 7, Vista and Server 2003/2008. Not being security updates, there’s no need to rush out and install them however, they should appear in Windows Update over the next few days so you can patch your system easily. A few however will probably not be added to Windows Update so you will need to pick through the list below and decide which you want to install manually....

It’s a Mega cloud storage that provides 50GB data for free and an official Linux client. Here is all that I have to say after using Mega in my Ubuntu Linux. I was using OneDrive before and I had a 15GB of space but suddenly the Microsoft changed the policy and now I have only 5GB online storage space....

There isn’t a whole lot of information of what this update addresses. In typical Microsoft fashion, the update says “This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10.” There is a Microsoft Support page up, although it doesn’t spell out what exactly this update is addressing. Hopefully we’ll get more information on it in the coming days. This updated does require a system restart, and remember you can schedule when restart takes place....

This is true for the original Surface RT to the most recent Surface Pro 3 and each model in between. In what seems like a never ending story, retiring Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has announced that the company plans to introduce a touch optimized version of Microsoft Office to iPad customers (via The Verge) after it completes development. Microsoft plans to first deliver the tablet version of its productivity suite to the Microsoft Surface, its tablet competitor to the iPad, but this is the first we have heard of such plans....
