This is the first new Insider build for the year and introduces some minor new features like an updated notification area icon, Task Manager improvements, and other system updates. Xim allows users to create shared photo slideshows that stay in sync across multiple devices....

Microsoft today announced an update for all Office 2016 apps on the Mac that bring 64-bit support to all of the apps. There are additional performance and stability improvements, as well. With today’s update, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote are all 64-bit. With that upgrade, all of the apps have improved performance and stability, according to Microsoft. The company also says that 64-bit runtime enables “new innovative features.” While 64-bit runtime has been available for members of Microsoft’s “Office Insider” beta testers for a while now, this marks the first time that 64-bit is available to all users of the productivity suite....

After an undeniably bad two weeks of press, MCX CEO Dekkers Davidson seems to have changed the company’s tune on CurrentC’s exclusivity policy that prompted retailers like CVS and Rite Aid to disable NFC terminals and block Apple’s iPhone 6-backed mobile payment system Apple Pay. Davidson told Re/code in an interview that MCX, the merchant consortium behind the Apple Pay competitor known as CurrentC, will lift the exclusivity policy in a matter of “months, not years....

Up until now if you experienced problems with the software on your Apple Watch and the standard OTA method didn’t work, you were forced to visit an Apple Store to resolve the issue. In fact, I have a first-gen Apple Watch sitting on my shelf right now that I’ve not used for the past six months because I haven’t bothered to schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar. Windows 10 Preview Build 17713 Microsoft Edge is getting updates to its autoplay video blocking as well as to the PDF toolbar. Also, the ability to lookup definitions while using Reading View for sites, eBooks, and PDFs. Notepad is getting many new user-requested improvements including Wrap-around, find/replace, Text Zooming, and Line Number with word-wrap. There are also new features for IT admins including improvements to Windows Defender Application Guard, Web sign-in to Windows 10 that supports non-ADFS federated providers, and Remote Desktop with Biometrics that works with Windows Hello....

Microsoft today delivers a second cumulative update (KB3081436) that the company says will improve functionality and resolve security issues. In spite of these desires for more flexibility by employees, 50% of leaders say they have plans for a full in-person return to the office this year. Employees who were surveyed said they want a reason why they should come into the office, yet only 28% of companies have established team agreements about who should work from where. And 53% of those surveyed say they are more likely to prioritize their health and wellbeing over work....

Microsoft today introduced an iPad version of their OneNote mobile app previously only available to iPhone users. The new app has of course been given a facelift for the iPad with a two-pane view and also includes a tabbed user interface, quick note creation, tables in notebooks, and the ability to sync notebooks over WiFi. Additionally, the iPhone app has also been updated to version 1.3 and both apps support several new languages including English, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish....

The new preview boasts a number of changes including providing you with the ability to save files into the company’s own storage cloud service OneDrive by default. The new preview works on desktops/laptops running Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8 as well as on Windows-powered tablets. You are, however, required to uninstall Office 2013 from your device to install the new preview. In addition, Outlook — the email client in the Office suite — is also getting some new features....

Microsoft has released a major update for its Bing app for iPad. The new app features a revamped interface to match the aesthetic of Apple’s latest OS along with a host of other features and improvements. Users are now able to save the daily image found on the search engine’s home page to their camera rolls for use as a wallpaper or whatever other purpose they decide. Currently all multimedia was sort of combined in to one tile on WP8. You would tap the Music+Videos tile and there have access to music, podcasts, and videos. Note: Microsoft also has a preview of an Xbox Music app for WP8 available for Music Pass subscribers. Weirdly though, you needed to manually connect your phone to your computer and drag your videos over. Of course you can watch them from SkyDrive, via IE, or through other apps....
