OneNote, Microsoft’s cross-platform application for taking and organizing notes, received a useful update on the Mac adding support for OCR, or optical character recognition. OneNote version 15.7.1, which is rolling out on the Mac App Store now, adds the ability to scan images from OneDrive notebooks for text. Once OneNote’s OCR system has ran, you can actually copy the text and save it to your notes just like if it were a editable text file from the start....

Launch Windows 8 Start screen and select the Microsoft Store. Next scroll over to Productivity and click on it – not Quick Note if you see it. Remember, until the final version of Windows 8 is released, all apps in the store are free. Click on OneNote MX. Then click Install. After it downloads, there will be a OneNote MX tile on your Start screen. You’ll have to scroll all the way over the right to find it and move it where you want....

COPA announced the membership on Monday, saying that the addition of Meta is the biggest cryptocurrency patent commitment to date. COPA was created in 2020 and encourages crypto innovation by lowering the chance of patent litigation by building open-source environments to protect core technologies for all users. Meta will also be joining COPA’s board and will have to adhere to COPA’s patent pledge. The pledge states that a member may not “enforce its core cryptocurrency patents against anyone, except for defensive reasons, effectively making these patents freely available for all to use....

Twitter’s Periscope app may have taken a lot of the attention from Meerkat after the live video streaming competitor launched, but the first live streaming service to capture everyone’s attention this year isn’t giving up yet. Meerkat announced an interesting partnership with GoPro today at VidCon, CNBC says. The partnership will allow GoPro users to live stream on the Meerkat service using action cameras. Previously streaming was limited to using either the front or rear smartphone camera so adding GoPro cameras as a source should result in some interesting streams for viewers....

Microsoft’s open-source code editor, Visual Studio Code, has been updated this week with a great enhancement for M1 Mac users. The tool is now fully compatible with the Apple Silicon platform, which means that it now runs natively on Macs with the M1 chip. Version 1.54 of Visual Code Studio is the first stable release with support for Apple Silicon Macs. Developers no longer need to have Rosetta installed to run Microsoft’s VS Code on the new M1 Macs (and any other new Macs coming in the future with an ARM processor)....

Microsoft is launching a new task management app for iPhone today called Planner. Previously available as a web app only, Planner works with eligible Office 365 accounts for organizing tasks visually and collaborating across teams. Miami Vice was a massive hit in the mid-to-late 1980s.
