Just hours after the news broke that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were ending their marriage after less than one year, the pop star was spotted kissing Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter, on vacation in Italy. A few weeks prior, Carter and Jenner also announced their divorce.
Earlier this month, Jenner and Carter, stars of MTV’s The Hills: New Beginnings, announced they were separating. The couple had been dating since 2014 and were married in June 2018, just six months before Cyrus and Hemsworth tied the knot on December 26. But as fans of The Hills witnessed, Jenner and Carter’s marriage wasn’t smooth sailing. The two were constantly arguing about Jenner’s party boy lifestyle and the fact that he didn’t want kids yet, while Carter did. Fortunately, after marrying in Indonesia, the pair never got a U.S. marriage license, so they won’t have to legally divorce one another. Shortly after Carter and Jenner’s rep announced their split, rumors began to swirl that Carter was already seeing a new “mystery man,” but it turns out there might not be a mystery man at all.
Cyrus and Hemsworth’s reps announced their divorce the same day as photos of Cyrus and Carter kissing in Italy made their rounds on the internet (via: ET). In the pictures, Cyrus and Carter can be seen lounging in bikinis on an Italian beach as they make out under their sun hats. The images sent the internet ablaze. Cyrus has been open about her sexuality and has spoken before about the fact that she and Hemsworth were in a “modern and complex” relationship and that she was still “very sexually attracted to women.” But no one was expecting her and Jenner’s ex to be the next “it” couple. Neither woman has spoken about the kissing photos yet, but fans on social media have already “shipped” them. In addition to the paparazzi shots of them making out, Carter posted some cute photos of her and Cyrus on vacation on Instagram. The two are seen hanging out on a yacht in Lake Como. So far, the divorced life looks like it suits them both very well. Fortunately for the foursome - who were friends before their respective divorces and hung out together in Malibu, where they all lived - Jenner seems to be taking the whole thing in stride. He made a joke on Instagram about releasing photos of him and Hemsworth holding hands next. Cyrus even chimed in, writing “go take a nap in your truck and cool off. #hotgirlsummer.” It sounds like she’s referring to the times when Jenner slept in his car instead of with his wife. Ouch.
Hopefully these jabs are all in good fun and the couples will still be able to get along following their breakups. Everyone involved seems to be happy with the outcome (particularly Cyrus and Carter), so maybe this is the beginning of another iconic celebrity couple.
