Previously we have seen that Microsoft made many of its popular projects open source including Microsoft web browser Edge, Calculator, vscode, terminal and many more. For the complete list, you can visit opensource.microsoft.com. Now the company that powers most of the Desktop computers has released the public preview of its Windows Defender ATP (Advanced Thread Protection) for multiple Linux distributions.
What is Windows Defender ATP?
Windows Defender ATP is unified endpoint protection for scanning the server for any post-breach, run automated investigations on system issues and respond to it automatically. The preview of Window Defender ATP for Linux is already available which means if you have subscribed to it, you can use it on the following Linux systems –
RHEL 7+CentOS Linux 7+Ubuntu 16 LTS or higher LTSSLES 12+Debian 9+Oracle EL 7.
If you use Linux on desktops, then you do not need to worry about it at all. If you are a Linux system administrator or a company that runs Linux servers, you can think about giving it a try. Though it is not free. You must have a subscription to Windows Defender ATP in order to use it. You can also apply for a trial if you want. If they accept my trial request, I might also explain the installation instructions of Windows defender on Linux. Meanwhile, you can check their official documentation for the instructions.
