Windows 10 Mail & Calendar Updates

Focused Inbox will allow you to get to your most important emails easier by separating your inbox into two tabs – “Focused” and “Other.” Obviously, the most important emails will appear under the Focused tab. The other less important emails, such as newsletters, will be accessible but out of the way in the “Other” tab. You can toggle this feature on or off by going to Settings > Reading > Focused Inbox in the app.

Mentions are designed for connecting with your contacts fast. While composing a message, add the ‘@’ symbol to bring up frequent contacts. When you pick the contact you need, their name will be highlighted in blue. That will help the person know they need to take action in your message.

Color Categories for Calendar will allow you better to organize upcoming events in a variety of different colors. The idea is it will enable you to scan through your calendar for similar events and plan your day more effectively. Color Categories have long been a feature in Outlook proper, and per the blog post, this has been a top requested calendar feature for the Calendar app.

Interesting calendar is a feature that will let you follow cloud-based calendars powered by Bing. Examples of these are TV schedules or your favorite sports team season schedule.

Travel reservations and package deliveries work across both Mail and Calendar. It will let you keep on top of your travel plans and package deliveries by adding simplified summary cards to your inbox and calendar.  Microsoft says this will enable you to “quickly get to travel reservations and package delivery details, check-in for flights or change hotels and rental car reservations or track the latest packages delivery status at the touch of a button, and stay on top of these events; with reliable reminders.”

Smaller improvements include an option to add Skype for online meetings, a scheduling assistant for Office 365 accounts, a fun emoji picker, and a people picker for quickly browsing contacts you want to add to a new calendar appointment you create. Don’t see these new features yet? No worries. Microsoft is rolling them out to everyone’s Outlook.com and Office 365 accounts over the next few weeks.
