Here’s every DLC pack for sequel Metro: Last Light ranked worst to best. Metro 2033 is a 2010 first-person shooter that’s adapted from a novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Both the book and game take place years after a nuclear attack on Russia forced survivors underground, where they are forced to make a new life in the dark, sprawling metro system. Surviving a devastating nuclear assault isn’t enough to ensure peace, however, as rival factions wrestle for control while mutated monsters run around in the dark.

The Metro 2033 novel led to a franchise, with Glukhovsky penning two further novels, which led to comic books and further spinoff books. The Metro game series has proven hugely popular too but far from being a splashy Call Of Duty-style experience, they’re a unique mix of action, stealth and survival horror. The success of the first game spawned 2013’s Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus, with Artyom being the protagonist of all three. There was also a film adaptation developed by MGM that would have taken place in Washington D.C., but this was later cancelled. A Russian film adaptation of Metro 2033 is apparently on course for a 2022 release.

Metro: Last Light was a great sequel that refined and improved upon the mechanics of the original while telling an engaging story. Four DLC packs were made available for it too, so let’s take a look at what they offered and rank them from worst to best.

The Developer Pack

Metro: Last Light’s Developer Pack was the third pack released and consists of a shooting range, A.I. Arena and a museum. There’s also a single-player mission where a character must exit from a nasty spider’s nest, but overall this pack feels light on content. The spider mission is quite creepy but it’s over too quick.

The Tower Pack

Metro: Last Light’s Tower Pack DLC puts more of a focus on combat and takes place inside a combat simulator. It’s a horde mode, basically, but given that Last Light’s gunplay is decent without ever being great, it’s not a very satisfying experience.

The Faction Pack

The Faction Pack was Metro: Last Light’s first DLC pack and is something of a mixed bag. It includes three single-player levels, including a sniping mission, while Heavy Squad has players as a Nazi shock trooper holding off hordes of enemies with heavy weapons. The latter was noted for its high difficulty, whilst final mission Kshatriya was praised for its large open map and unique gameplay, where a Ranger is tasked with seeking supplies from the Great Library.

The Chronicles Pack

The Chronicles Pack was Metro: Last Light’s final - and best - DLC pack. It consists of three single-player missions focused around supporting players Anna, Pavel, and Khan. All three take place within Last Light’s main story, with Anna’s being a sniping level providing cover fire for Arytom, Pavel’s being a stealth mission while Khan’s is a surprisingly emotional sidequest that sees him literally haunted by his past.
