Oscar Isaac voices his desire to play Solid Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation. It’s common knowledge now that Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been in talks regarding the development of a Metal Gear movie. Late last year, he was even sharing pictures of concept art for the film. However, despite excitement from Vogt-Roberts and fans of the series alike, there’s been radio silence on the casting matter.
Since Vogt-Roberts’ adaptation has famously gotten the blessing of series creator Hideo Kojima, there’s been a lot of interest around the direction of the production and whether or not it’s going to be able to stay true to the feel of the controversially beloved video game franchise. Since it was confirmed last year that the script had been finished, the radio silence around this project may have led some to speculate that casting talks were in session, or at least being contemplated.
Luckily, it seems like Vogt-Roberts won’t have to look far to find his leading man. Isaac and fellow Triple Frontier cast members were asked in an IGN interview recently about which video game movie adaptation they would want to be a part of. While Ben Affleck and Garrett Hedlund mentioned being keen to star in a film project of this type, only Isaac was ready with the definitive answer. He clearly puts his hand up and throws his hat in the ring to play Solid Snake.
While the rest of the cast gently rib Isaac on his eagerness, it does seem like everyone can agree on one thing: just how keen he is to take on the role of Solid Snake. Twitter user BossLogic, an artist well-known for mock-ups of beloved movie characters and other original works, tweeted out an image of Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake. Now, Vogt-Roberts has revealed on Twitter that he was actually the one who was behind BossLogic’s inspired Isaac artwork; he got in touch with the artist to specifically request it.
As per the words of Vogt-Roberts, it now looks like the ball is in Isaac’s court if he wants to be considered for the role of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. Judging from the community’s reaction to this latest news as well as Vogt-Roberts’ own praise in his latest tweet, notably that Isaac is one of the director’s “favorite actors to watch,” it’s starting to look like there’s a not insignificant chance that the casting for Solid Snake is a done deal if both parties reach out to each other.
