Meizu has today unveiled their latest flagship named Meizu 16S in an event in China. On the first look, it just looks like a minor upgrade of the 16TH launched last year, but read below to know more about the detailed specifications and features it offers.

The phone ditches many modern trends that are present on many smartphones launching these days, like a punch hole camera, waterdrop notch, or a lifting camera. It instead has a small bezel on both top and bottom. The top bezel houses all the important sensors inside. Despite having front camera and sensors inside the front bezel, the phone still manages to attain a screen to body ratio of 91.53%.

Specifications:

The phone is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 mobile platform with Adreno 640 GPU. The Soc with Kyro 485 and Hexagon 690 DSP helps the phone to achieve great performance and AI capabilities. The phone also has several software features that further increase the performance of the phone, especially while playing games. In terms of cameras, the phone has dual rear AI cameras with a 48 MP f/1.7 IMX586 primary sensor, and a 20 MP f/2.6 IMX 350 secondary sensor. It also has 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization to capture still photos and videos. The cameras offer up to 3X lossless zoom, so you don’t get any super zoom capabilities like the Oppo Reno or Huawei P30 Pro. Night Scene mode is also supported which comes in two types, Handheld and Standheld. The former is useful when capturing images while holding the phone in hands, while the latter can be used if you mount your phone on a tripod or keep it still somewhere. On the front side, Meizu premiers the 20 MP Samsung 3T2 camera sensor, which is the smallest 20 MP sensor in the market currently. The camera has an aperture of f/2.2 and comes with various modes like portrait mode, men’s beauty mode, HDR+ mode etc.

The phone has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2232 x 1080p and 18.6:9 aspect ratio. It also emits less blue light because of some hardware changes and provides retina-level color reproduction. The screen is VDE Blue Light protection certified from Germany. It also supports DC dimming. The mTouch in-display fingerprint sensor under the screen is now around 100% faster than the Meizu 16TH and recognition of wet fingers is improved by around 30%. The phone is 7.6 mm thin and weighs just 165 grams. It gets its juice from a 3,600 mAh battery, which charges up to 60% in 30 mins thanks to mCharge fast charging tech. Though, this is slower as compared to what we saw on recent devices of Lenovo, Huawei, etc. Also, the phone doesn’t support wireless charging which is a let down for many people. Another let down is the removal of 3.5 mm audio jack from the phone. The phone has mEngine 3.0, that is basically a linear motor inside that vibrates to give users more real and delicate feedback. With the help of this, the phone according to Meizu gives “4D gaming experience” as it vibrates according to what’s happening in the game.

Talking about the software, it runs on the latest Flyme 7.3 on top of Android 9 Pie. Many features of the upcoming Flyme 8 have been added in the phone for a better experience. The phone has One Mind 3.0 which decreases the power consumption from the apps intelligently for better battery life. Game Mode has also been improved along with a new Hyper Gaming tech. Other specifications of the phone include NFC, dual frequency GPS, Bluetooth 5, 4X4 MIMO antennas, etc.
