The Duchess of Sussex can’t seem to catch a break! Amid Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent decision to split from the Royal Family is Meghan’s own family throwing shady accusations her way. Most recently, Meghan’s estranged sister accused her of only seeking “fame and fortune” through her marriage to Prince Harry.
The current royal crisis comes after Queen Elizabeth called an emergency meeting last week between Prince Charles and his two sons, Prince William, and Prince Harry. The meeting was of course about Prince Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior royal members. The news of their renouncement left a shockwave of emotion throughout the world and especially within the Royal family. The Queen, Harry’s brother Prince William, and his father Prince Charles were all reportedly upset by the news of Harry abandoning his role within the monarchy but the family has still been supportive of his decision. Prince Harry’s decision came after Duchess Meghan had a difficult time adjusting to life under the microscope of the British media and decided it would be best to distance themselves from their Royal duties, become financially stable, and split their time between North America and the UK.
Despite the Royal Family’s support of the Duke and Duchess, Meghan’s own family in the U.S. hasn’t been so kind. Meghan’s estranged sister, Samantha Markle penned an op-ed piece in The Sun on Monday, where she slammed Meghan and accused her of using her marriage to Harry to achieve fame and fortune for herself while splitting up the royal family in the process. Samantha first offered praise to Queen by writing, “Her Majesty’s words show great diplomacy but Meghan’s behavior has so far not been diplomatic.” Samantha continued, “A diplomat wouldn’t fall out with her own family.” Meghan’s sister then accused the former Suits actress of disowning their father, Thomas Markle, and not sticking up for him in the media despite him being “frail” due to a heart condition. Samantha said, “[Thomas Markle] doesn’t have a PR team to spin him a good story.” Samantha claimed, “The Queen, at 93, shouldn’t have had to face the stress of seeing her family torn apart. Meghan hasn’t stepped forward to minimize the damage. She knows how Harry leaving has affected them, but she hasn’t spoken up in their defense.”
Samantha continued to blast Meghan for becoming a “totally different person” than the sister she once knew and for “choosing wealth and fortune over family.” Samantha went on to accuse Meghan of not making decisions based on her family but doing it all for the limelight, Fox News reports. “My fear is Meghan’s decision isn’t about moving to Canada for a quiet life as a young mother. Nothing about their actions so far suggest they truly desire a private life out the limelight. They have paraded themselves on the red carpet, tried to make deals with Disney, and become pals with the Clooneys and other A-list stars.” Samantha quipped, “Smooching up to Vogue magazine, to fashion and to the film industry is not consistent with taking a step back. Their objective is fame and fortune - to be Hollywood.” She then defended the royal family over claims there was racism at the root of the decision by saying that she’s never heard anything racist come from the royal family.
Meghan and Prince Harry are currently keeping a low profile in Canada while the media remains in a frenzy over their abdication. We’re sure the Duke and Duchess will continue to do what’s best for their family and Samantha will not be a part of it.
