Duchess Meghan Markle will be joining an emergency royal family meeting via a phone call. Meghan will take the call in Canada, where she and husband Prince Harry will be spending their time after stepping down as senior Royals.

The Royal Family are going through a transitional phase, but have long been viewed as indispensable in the UK, holding up centuries of customs and pride. That said, Markle has felt the brunt of criticism aimed at the Royals recently. She has been blamed for the rift in the Royal Family between her husband and Prince William, as well as the main reason Prince Harry has agreed to step aside from his duties.

According to CNN, the British royal family will meet January 13 to discuss the future of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. The meetings comes only a few days after The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would be stepping back from their senior roles to focus more on themselves.  The meeting will take place at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, which is located in eastern England. In attendance will be Queen Elizabeth II, her son Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. Meghan will phone in from Canada.

It was reported that the Queen had given her aides 72 hours to strike a deal with the couple, as she wanted the situation figured out as soon as possible. While Buckingham Palace has stayed silent on the matter, Prince William did express sadness toward his brother over the weekend, acknowledging that the two were at one time very close. The future King of England had told a friend that he always supported his younger brother, so this shift in his brother’s royal role has no doubt affected him.

The family meeting will have a range of possibilities for the whole family to consider. According to the palace, any change that would occur in the working life or role of senior royals requires deep thought and discussion. Queen Elizabeth II would like there to be a sincere deal and for her whole family to understand that any decision will take a bit of time to be realized. Even though Prince Harry and Meghan went against the wishes of the Queen, they are said to be hopeful that the family will strike a reasonable deal on their behalf.
