The MCU is well known for including light-hearted and funny moments in their movies. This helped to contrast the MCU against the comic book movies of the past, such as The Dark Knight and the X-Men, both of which stuck to serious, action-based plots. Elements of humor in the MCU helped to transform it into the cinematic and cultural juggernaut that it has become. However, some MCU characters are funnier than others and spring to mind more often when one thinks of funny MCU characters.

This list will rank the 10 funniest characters in the MCU.

Dr. Strange

Dr. Strange might be considered an unusual addition to this list. While the Sorceror Supreme may not be the first character that comes to mind when one thinks of a funny Marvel character, he certainly deserves a place on this list.

It may be easy to overlook Strange’s dry and wry sense of humor, but it is worthy of recognition. Strange’s interactions with Tony Stark, Iron Man, Thor, and Loki are hilarious and perfectly showcase his sarcastic sense of humor.

Star-Lord

Naturally, there are going to be several Guardians of the Galaxy on this list. Star-Lord is just the first. The only human on the Guardians of the Galaxy team, Peter Quill (Star-Lord) has his work cut out when it comes to matching the other Guardians physically. However, when it comes to wit and humor, Star-Lord is more than a match.

The fact that Peter Quill was taken into space when he was only a child means that he still hasn’t quite grown up, which is certainly funny to watch. This hilarious immaturity can be seen by the fact that he challenged one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy to a dance-off.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man was always intended to be a light-hearted character. The Web-Slinger’s witty quips have been a feature of his character for several decades. While the MCU version does a fantastic job of adapting this element of the character, it also shows us that Spidey’s quips are also a result of the insecurities of youth.

As a consequence, we can only expect Spider-Man to get even funnier as the character matures in the MCU (hopefully).

Loki

While Loki may have started his MCU life as a villain, there is no denying that he has transitioned into more of a morally ambiguous character. That being said, despite this recent character turn, Loki has always been funny. His humor comes from his arrogance and belief that he is better than everyone else. As a consequence of his arrogance, Loki is constantly belittling other characters which leads to some funny interactions.

In addition to his arrogant personality, Loki is also at his funniest when interacting with Thor. Their sibling rivalry adds spice to everything they do together. The scenes in Ragnarok between Thor and Loki are some of the best in the movie.

Rocket Raccoon

Rocket Raccoon is another member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who’s managed to receive a place on this list. Rocket Raccoon managed to become a fan favorite almost immediately in the Guardians of the Galaxy due to the clash between his violent personality and his small, fluffy exterior.

While a talking raccoon is still absurd in space, it is even more so on Earth. It is because of this that, after meeting the Avengers, Rocket became even funnier; the Avengers’ reactions to Rocket’s appearance and personality are comedy gold.

Thor

Before the intervention of Taika Waititi, Thor was still a funny character. Granted, most of this comedy came from his ‘fish out of water’ character across his first few appearances. The comedy pre-Waititi largely relied on the struggles of Thor to appear human.

However, after the Thor: Ragnarok, the character became far funnier. His interactions with Rocket Raccoon and the other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy were hilarious, not to mention his ‘Big Lebowski’ character in Endgame.

Happy Hogan

The decision to include himself in Iron Man as Happy Hogan was a masterstroke by director Jon Favreau. Happy Hogan, despite his name, seems to be perpetually aggravated and just barely managing to keep a lid on his day to day activities. It is refreshing and hilarious to see Happy trying to do his job in a world full of superheroes and supervillains.

The character has incredible comedic chemistry with other members of the MCU, particularly Tony Stark, Peter Parker, and Aunt May.

Ant-Man

Ant-Man is one of the most underrated Marvel movies of recent years. The reason for this is Paul Rudd’s incredible performance as the titular character. While Rudd is more than capable of portraying a heroic character, what makes Ant-Man so good is how the film leans into Rudd’s comic abilities. This allows him to portray an ‘outsider’ character who sees the absurdity of the Avengers.

Ant-Man is hilarious because he, in a sense, doesn’t belong in the Avengers but he is there anyway. It’s this gap between Avengers and Ant-Man that is so funny.

Tony Stark/ Iron Man

Ever since his first appearance in 2008’s Iron Man, Tony Stark has been delivering fantastic quips and witty one-liners. Even when the character was an unlikeable, arrogant, and entitled CEO, he was still showing his wit and intellect in his interactions with others.

After he became a hero, however, he became even funnier. Most of his humor was seen in interactions with others, such as Captain America, Thor, and Ebony ‘Squidward’ Maw.

Drax

Drax is, without doubt, the funniest character in the MCU. The way he delivers every line with a deadpan, serious tone is perfect. Further, the fact that Drax is completely unaware of his comedic skill makes his scenes even greater. His interactions with Thor and the other Guardians are hysterical and some of the funniest scenes in Infinity War featured Drax.

Fortunately, he managed to survive the events of Endgame, so we should expect even more to come from Drax as he travels the galaxy with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor.
