The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is showing no signs of stopping, as it’s just getting started on its upcoming fourth phase. With more than 20 movies under its belt and more to still come, the MCU isn’t close to running out of stories to tell. While many stories and characters made it to the big screen, it goes without saying that a lot of other ideas and first drafts had to be scrapped....

Thanks to their constant nods to the source material, the MCU has found a lot of success by adapting some of the most action-packed, awesome, and fun comic books. Though not everything is a word-for-word adaptation, many elements from the comics still find their way into the movies, making discussion for fans all the better. MediaTek is a possible alternative modem manufacturer Apple is considering for future iPhones. Amidst its disputes with Qualcomm over patent royalties, Apple has turned to Intel to reduce Qualcomm’s market share over iPhone modems. However, it has been reported that Apple is also considering to bring MediaTek onboard as a second supplier. Digitimes says that Apple is yet to commit to orders with MediaTek. For the 2018 iPhone lineup, Apple is currently expected to source about 70% of modems from Intel, with Qualcomm receiving the minor share of orders....

“This year’s Zune hardware is Windows Phone 7”, says the Zune head. The Zune team head debunked yesterday’s report about the Zune’s demise. Dave McLauchlan, senior business development manager for Zune, insisted that the iPod didn’t kill the Zune in a semi-official statement posted to the AnythingButiPod forums. He reminded that “all consumer electronics products have a lifespan, and the Zune HD is 18 months old” while promising new apps and games....

Microsoft and Facebook have announced that they will be changing the pistol emoji from a realistic-looking handgun to a water pistol. Google yesterday made the same decision, all following the lead Apple set two years ago … Apple swapped out the pistol emoji for a water pistol in iOS 10 back in 2016. Apple had also led the way in opposing a proposal to add a rifle character. Samsung and Twitter both followed Apple’s example earlier this year, and Google’s decision yesterday left Facebook and Microsoft the only remaining big tech holdouts....

Microsoft confirms server misconfiguration led to 65,000+ companies’ data leak This week marks the second month of bad news for Microsoft, who, after seeing cybercriminals compromise its Exchange Servers last month, saw an unintentional endpoint misconfiguration expose the information of thousands of customers. The Windows creator did not reveal the extent of the data leak, but SOCRadar says it affects more than 65,000 firms in 111 countries, with the exposure amounting to 2....

Important: Microsoft has recently reorganized the Insider program. The Fast ring is now known as the Dev Channel. The Slow ring is now known as the Beta Channel and Release Preview ring is now known as the Release Preview Channel. Some of the new features in today’s release include Theme-aware tiles in Start. “We are freshening up the Start menu with a more streamlined design that removes the solid color backplates behind the logos in the apps list and applies a uniform, partially transparent background to the tiles,” writes Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc....

According to Microsoft: “This security update resolves a vulnerability in Windows that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or goes to an untrusted webpage that contains embedded OpenType fonts.” The Microsoft Security advisory site provides additional details: Microsoft says it’s not aware of any customers being attacked yet, but because it released this patch today, the company appears to feel it’s potentially a serious problem....

Microsoft has announced today that it is updating its Microsoft Store revenue sharing agreement. The company says that starting immediately, developers will keep 95 percent of app revenue, while Microsoft will take the remaining 5 percent. There is, however, some fine print worth noting. First and foremost, Microsoft says that in order for developers to lock-in the full 95 percent, the user must have downloaded the app through a direct URL....

The interval between Apple being accused of wrong-doing and the first lawsuit is never very long, but the revelation that the company was deliberately slowing older iPhones appears to have resulted in a record number of cases. Last time we counted, there were 30 separate cases, and that number has now almost doubled. However, a meeting tomorrow aims to combine all the US cases into a single class action lawsuit …...

Microsoft has just announced that they are purchasing Nokia’s devices and services divisions. Nokia has been the main manufacturer of Windows Phone 8 devices, and it looks like Microsoft will be using this acquisition to further merge their software and hardware engineering and design. In a joint statement from (outgoing) Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, the two executives stated, “Today’s agreement will accelerate the momentum of Nokia’s devices and services, bringing the world’s most innovative smartphones to more people, while continuing to connect the next billion people with Nokia’s mobile phone portfolio....

Sure, you could argue that Microsoft’s shiny new Office apps for iPad are only ranking so well because they’re freemium apps since they’re listed for free but require a subscription to fully function, but they are taking up the top four spots nonetheless. Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella is apparently pleased with this as he tweeted out “looks like it’s a productive Friday for [iPad] owners!’ following yesterday’s friendly back-and-forth exchange with Apple CEO Tim Cook....

After 10 years of movies, Marvel Studios will be bringing everything and everyone together in an event unlike anything anyone’s ever witnessed on the big screen. Avengers: Infinity War will be the start of this epic tale that will be the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as fans have come to know and love, but also the beginning of what else the studio has planned. By attempting this feat, Marvel will be allowed to crossover characters from every section of this universe - but don’t expect TV characters to be included....

Metrolinx has started adding Apple Pay support on Toronto’s Up Express. For the same price as the PRESTO adult fare, UP Express customers can tap on a PRESTO device using Apple Pay with a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit card as a part of a pilot. The UP Express connects Downtown Toronto with Toronto Pearson International Airport. People can use Apple Pay as other contactless payments, such as Google Pay and credit cards with NFC support....
